Rozol® Vole Bait

Rozol® Vole Bait is a Restricted-Use Product also made using the multi-feed anticoagulant chlorophacinone. Rozol Vole Bait is formulated using paraffinized pellets instead of inferior “fillers” for outstanding weatherability and palatability. Rozol holds up to wet conditions before and after snow pack, reducing the chances of tree and root girdling, runway damage, and production losses from voles on your property. Rozol is labeled for use in Orchards, Commercial Nurseries, Christmas Tree Farms & Forestry Plantations in select states, (see label). When compared with other bait alternatives including zinc phosphide (ZP), diphacinone, and strychnine, Rozol offers the following key benefits:

  • Outstanding Control. Broadcast applications have been validated by Qualls Agricultural Lab (Ephrata, WA): Vole populations were reduced by 80% (mark-recapture) vs. a 45% population increase for untreated areas. Feeding activity was reduced by over 62% with Rozol vs. +3% feeding for untreated areas.

  • Easy-to-Use / Less Work. No need to pre-treat and less repeat applications.

  • Lower Primary Poisoning Potential. Rozol’s toxicity to birds is 20 to 2,000X (times) less than for ZP or strychnine. Rozol less toxic to dogs than ZP or Diphacinone.

  • Superior Weatherability – Rozol does not lose its effectiveness when wet - it outlasts ZP and can be used under diverse weather conditions.

  • Best Acceptance – No bait shyness or sub-lethal dose problems as with other acute toxicants such as ZP.

  • Low cost per acre – Savings in time, labor and fuel1 exceed comparative total
costs of other methods such as zinc phosphide, diphacinone, wire mesh guards
    and plastic bands.

  • No Known Resistance by Rodents – As may occur with Warfarin.

  • Readily-Available Antidote – Vitamin K1

  • Available in 50 lb. bags (#84313 – 40 per pallet).

  • Coverage: Minimum 5 acres at 10 lbs. per acre (broadcast). Band or targeted broadcast increases coverage.

Comparative Features

1Some state restrictions; see label.
2 Zinc Phosphide: recommended for use when fair & dry weather is expected for at least three days – limiting application flexibility or reducing efficacy.

Apply only by hand spot baiting and ground broadcasting, (except NY andVT).

Hand spot baiting: Place 1-1/2 ounces of bait in each active hole, trail or runway at each tree site (10 lbs./acre). Cover each placement with grass or shingle to avoid exposing non-target organisms.

Ground broadcast baiting: Using a commercial spreader, apply 10 lbs. per acre, unless prohibited by your state (see above). If populations are high, make a second application 1-2 months after the first. The maximum application rate is 40 lbs./acre per year for pine voles, and 20 lbs./acre per year for meadow and mountain voles. To avoid exposing non-target organisms, clean up any bait in piles for reuse or disposal according to the “Pesticide Disposal” section of the product label.

Christmas Tree Farms, Commercial Nurseries & Tree Plantations

Approved in the Following States: NC, OH

Dosage Rate: (See “Orchards” section)

Special Instructions/Directions for Use: For control of pine, meadow or mountain voles in Christmas tree farms, commercial nurseries and tree plantations. Apply when three days of good weather are expected. See Special Instructions/ Directions for Use in “Orchards” section.

Follow all applicable directions, restrictions and precautions on the
EPA-registered label.

Forestry Plantations

Approved in the Following States: ID

Dosage Rate: 2 tablespoons in each active hole, trail or runway at each tree site (10 lbs./acre).

Burrowing Owl Protection: Determine the locations of any active burrowing sites. Contact the Idaho Dept. of Agriculture for information on burrowing owls, and if considering use on the Birds of PreyWildlife Area.

Special Instructions/Directions for Use: For control of pine or meadow voles in forest plantations. Do not apply over bare ground or crops not specified above. Apply only by hand spot baiting. Do not graze animals in treated areas. Do not use hay cut after application for feed or bedding.

Hand spot baiting: Place about 2 tablespoons of bait in each active hole, trail or runway at each tree site. At sites where bait is removed, add bait for 5-7 consecutive days. Do not exceed 10 lbs./acre. Cover each placement with grass or shingle to avoid exposing non-target organisms. If populations are high, make a second application, not to exceed 10 lbs./acre. The total bait application must not exceed 20 lbs./acre per year. After treatment program, collect unconsumed bait and dispose of according to the “Pesticide Disposal” section of the product label.
